Default Have Y'All Seen These Advertised?

I saw this on a site I go to today and I thought I would share. Columbia has come out with a self-warming jacket that will run off of a battery pack that's rechargeable via USB. It does look cool, but geez, I couldn't stand the price. It is slated to run for 5 hours on a charge. Here's where I read about it:

Or you could buy a pretty girl dinner at a really nice restaurant..............\

No USB port required.

Or save the additional weight of the battery and carry a french press! Maybe chocolate?! ;-)

Yes but even after a nice dinner she is not guaranteed to be warming for 5 hours. Plus the upkeep and maintenance there can get time consuming and expensive.

Not too sure I would spend that much on a jacket that has not been around long enough to prove its worth. I would hate to spend that money and then find out something horrible happens, like I melt in my sleep or something.

The 2.0 version fixes all these problems.

Hi...

I have had no experience with them, or any battery operated clothing...or bedding. I have recently read that some battery operated socks and gloves were ineffictive (or defective), however.

A bit too new for me, even if I were interested.

I've always preferred proper non-battery operated clothing...and bedding.

I have a cheap ($25) hooded jacket from Academy that's waterproof. With a fleece ($20 from Academy) worn beneath it, it's less bulky than the jacket pictured. I've worn it during a blizzard in Colorado. The temp was -13 plus windchill. I was outside for 3 hours and never got cold.

Full outfit: Jacket and fleece mentioned above. ($45)
Thermal underwear worn beneath my cargo pants ($5)
Rubber chemical gloves with fleece gloves beneath (Unloading caustic chemicals requires chemical gloves) ($5)
knit cap ($10)
Buff worn like a scarf around my neck ($20)

$85 will keep your whole body warm... no recharging needed.

I always enjoy your "Camping on a Dime" reality checks!
