Default katadyn base camp water filter

Was wondering if anyone uses one of these. Have been reading many reviews and they are some what mixed. Was thinking of getting one this weekend for a trip over New Years.

Most reviews I have caught are pretty good but I have not gotten one (yet, maybe its on the wish list). Have you ever used one before? I know amazon had a few deals about a week back on these.

Carmen no I currently have an MSR Minworks pump. Works great but thinking about getting a gravity system.

I do have this one and the MSR version... Both work very well especially with a group. Sawyer brand has been busy with research and I have there filters which I like better than other brands...

We have a couple of the katadynes in our group. They are great for a group IF the water is sediment clean. With several people using them and in a gravity setting, sediment builds fast and slows the output to a trickle. With our pumps we can put a coffee filter on the end of the inlet hose to prefilter excess stuff but can't with the bag because the filter is inside. With mountain running water, we can get a week for 4 or 5 people without cleaning but if we are dipping from a lake, 3-4 days is max. This effluent is just large stuff on the outside of the filter so it can be cleaned each time but it is better done at home than on the trail.

Yes Frig I looks at the Sawyer they have a 2 bag system. Like it but the bags I seen were 1.5 liter and the system was about 50 bucks more than the Katadyne. That is why I was looking at the Katadyn. The MSR look good but there again 30 bucks higher on the MSRP.

Grandpa, Sounds like the Katadyn may be the ticket for me. Most of the places that I filter are running streams and not lakes. Sounds like you and others have had good like in these situations.

I have one of those, also. It is the approximate shape/size of a pint water bottle. Got it a way back at a very low sale price. As to how well it works, I really don't have any way to evaluate it, other than to say that I've had no problems with it.
