Default Making a gravity feed water filter system

Been looking to get a gravity water filter. Thinking about just buying a filter and using a drybag for the dirty water. Anyone every do this. Was wondering if the replacement filters for like the Hiker Pro would work for this or will they need the pressure from the pump to get the water to flow through the filter? Seems I could but one together for less then the 90 bucks for the Base Camp Model.
