I mean, roughing it is one thing, but going without that fresh cup of coffee in the morning--never!

I tried to adapt a metal lid to use with those keurig cups. I didn't know the keurig machine forces the water through the cup under pressure. I can get the holes punched in the top and bottom, and have a little metal plate with a hole the cup sits in, but when I pour the water in the top, it saturated the filter and doesn't drip out. It would rather flood out over the top. I can't think of a way to force it in under pressure that is field expedient and light. The nice thing about the cups is they are light and self contained.

Default Most essential auxilary item?

I usually don't trek very far,
when all around me,
inadequately prepared people are.

Hi..

I've given that question a lot of thought. I've finally decided that such an item in my BOB would have to be a Y-shaped slingshot. Presently I carry a home made one, but will replace it with a store bought one.

I usually don't carry a firearm when I'm afield, so, if necessary, such a slingshot can be used to take small animals/birds in an emergency.

The hollow surgical-type tubing used for same can also be used to get water from crevices, holes dug next to streams, etc. Also for a tournequet.

Caution: NEVER hold a slingshot in front of your face when aiming it...!!

I was at Menard's today and walked through the section where they have toys for pets. I seen an extremely large slingshot used to launch tennis balls. This is not the normal "Y" shaped slingshot, but it's designed like the Wrist Rocket with a forearm support. I might have to get one to launch hand grenades!

Now there's an idea. You should post this on the string about loud noises deterring grizzly bears.

Hand grenades is good. But if not quite that radical, would be great for launching overripe tomatoes when the politicians come to town.
