Default Wet Neckerchiefs?

My wife has been making these little neckerchiefs lately that use moisture crystals in them like you put in flower pots to keep them moist. They are dry and then when you soak them, they plump up and hold water for a while. I've tried it but I really didn't like the feeling of something wet against my neck for that long. It did keep me cool but it was irritating. Has anyone tried these things?

I have not tried them but I would love to. I always get super hot when I'm hiking and I would love to have something wet and cool to put on my neck. Maybe us women don't mind things like that because we wear jewelry.

The only problem with these is they collect dust, that turns into abrasive mud that grinds into your neck.
These were sold at the exchange when I was working in the Middle East, good idea but didn't work that well in the desert for above stated reason.

Never tried one, but worth trying. As far as the dust goes that's not usually an issue where I do my outdoors stuff.

Not sure I would like the idea of it either. I am already bad enough when I swear and constantly wiping it away, doubt I would want to do the same with water too.

I tried it once and ended up with a stiff neck. I didn't realize how cool it was getting out (I was sweating) and it was the equivalent of walking a mile with ice on my neck. It was either that or I might have been holding my head a certain way to compensate.

Didn't care for the bulky feeling of the cyrtals in the fabic, I would rather just go with a plain piece of cloth and re-apply water as needed. For the most part I won't use them.

Wet pack towel works great in an emergency. Until excess heat symptoms start, its best to let the body do it's own cooling. Now that doesn't mean you wait until heat exhaustion is already present. Know the symptoms and cool down immediately.
