There is a 1996 Dutchman popup camper that we were thinking about getting. Besides quick trips out it can double when we remodel our house (and avoid high hotel fees). From a few pictures online it looks like its in decent shape for being that old but I am still not totally sold on it.

From my limited experience, thats a good brand. I'd look closely at the floor to make sure its not getting soft, and at the lift cable for rust.

I would be very careful when buying something like that on craigslist. If I were you I would get 2 or 3 friends to come look at it with you. If you get really serious then you need to inspect, or have inspected, the whole thing.

I've owned a couple of popups. Last one went bad on me with all the proper care. The cloth under the canvas rotted out. It was old but I don't think it should have gotten that bad that quick. I could repair the canvas with my hot glue gun and patches. The sides were cloth. So the top stayed good. It would have cost me $1000 for a new top and then the install price. Only paid $600 for it so it wasn't cost effective to repair it. I now have a utility trailer. Be careful what you buy anywhere.

The sides on my pop-up are vinyl coated polyester, so they are pretty tough. You can qactuaslly repair this sort of cloth pretty easily with vinyl coated tarp material and HH-63 cement.

I'm in the process of using this stuff to cover a wood-frame kayak right now, and the cement works great, and makes an unbelievably strong bond.

Why not go take a look at it and then decide. I think it's a good brand too. I was looking through craigslist to see if we could find a new camper but the prices are still a bit out there for me.

I'm not fond of popups. It would look carefully at it and check it out underneath as well as on top. They don't last forever but you may find a good buy. Just make sure you look at it carefully and don't get caught up in buying fever.
