Default FEMA Campers

Now after so long since Hurricane Katrina and Rita, there are people still living in the FEMA campers. I have also seen a number of them being put up for sale. What is a decent price for one of these?

I don't buy things from the government. I figure that's like paying for it twice.

On the other hand, these are probably being sold by former residents, and people who have currently very little in the way of material goods. They may be simply trying to make a little extra.

I would think it would be priced according to condition. Remember a lot of the families have quite a few members who live in them. I would think they would have to be personally inspected before a price could be reached.

Hmm, if I recall, these were rush-ordered by FEMA and were put together slapdash. There were a *lot* of complaints about poor workmanship and dangerous materials. I don't think I'd ever try my luck with one.

I have looked at a few of these being sold as surplus. They were from "Like New" to "POS / Trashed out".
I think $4500 was the going price but am not sure of that, it was a year or so ago.

I picture those trailers being a temporary shelter, and not intended for long-term use. If people have lived in them for a longer period of time, they may not be in the best condition any more....

Yup that's it. I think there were also health problems from the heat in the south melting all the various adhesives they put them together with. They definitely mentioned formaldehyde.

I don't think I'd touch one of them with a 10 foot pole.

When I get land I'm going to try to do an inexpensive wood-sided cabin. Not as portable but much nicer for a similar price if you're willing to do some work.

I lived in one of those for about a year when the government gave me housing with an internship that I did in Florida on the Ocala NF. It was actually very cozy, but I would not want to raise a family in one
