Default Insurance

When you have bought a camper of any type, have you bought insurance for it? Is it necessary if you are not financing it? I am thinking of buying a pull behind for fishing trips and didn't know if the cost of insurance should be added to the depreciation and upkeep costs I'm trying to figure out.

I think in my state, anything that's on the road has to have insurance. I don't know for sure but I'm sure a lot of states are the same. You may want to check locally to see what your state requires.

Depends if you are talking about replacement or liability insurance.

Check your auto policy and see what it says. Then call your agent...

"As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free," - The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

"....I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death." - William B. Travis, Feb. 1836, The Alamo.

Or call a few agents. I have heard there is a guy in our town who is known for being a shady salesman who cons people and he always targets the outdoor groups. Get a few quotes!

The one my dad used to have was tied in through the same thing as our house somehow from what I remember. I am sure sure places do the same for auto/boat or auto/RV too, seeing as everyone likes to "bundle" these days.

calanta, sounds like your dad had a luxury item rider on the homeowner's insurance. It's a common way to do this if you're just talking about replacement insurance.

I'm sure you'd never run into any insurance agent that would tell you NOT to buy more insurance.

^LOL I bought it. And yeah, I've bought insurance for the thing. It wasn't too bad but it will be an extra monthly or every six month expense. I would rather pay the premium every six months and have that security.

What was it? Was it for liability or replacement?
