Default Maintenance?

I never had a trailer, not even one of those smaller ones. How big of a job is to maintain an average sized trailer? Is it the same like cleaning your home or is it more demanding?

It is somewhat of a job to look after all of those systems. Water, electric, propane, sewer, etc. Winterizing is easy once you know how. Trailers sit around a lot so batteries discharge, the sun fades them. They get taken on rough roads and things tend to vibrate loose and suffer from lots of dust. All of these things can be overcome, but it helps to be mechanically minded or have lots of money.

I did the winterization on my new one for the first time this fall. I found it pretty easy and have taken the batteries out to charge every so often over winter inside.
The manual laid out what needed to be done and I just followed instructions. It seemed easy enough, but then again, my camper is a little 16 footer so that has to make it somewhat easier.
I still had a full bathroom to do, water lines and a hot water heater. Still not too bad.

It takes some getting used to. As what ppine said, there is more to maintaining any kind of a popup camper, trailer, or any kind of RV that just cleaning. There's a bunch of systems that you need to care for on a regular basis. But once you've had it for a long while, and you really love camping in it, it will eventually get easier.

I have often heard campers and boats called big holes in ya yard to poor money into. If ya like us though ya figure its worth it. Part of the fun of camping in my book is fixin all the lil problems ya run into. Here is a story bout a 50 cent fitting on a water line in our lil camper.

If you want your trailer to remain in good condition you have to spend the time to maintain it. Winterizing is especially important. I learned the hard way how important it is to be sure that all the water is completely drained, so nothing freezes. And removing the batteries is a good tip too. In summer, I frequently give it a good wash and wax and treat the roof at once.
