Pop up with AC?

Does anyone here have one of these? If so have you ever had any problems with the AC? Do they have generators so you can run the AC if in the woods somewhere? We're thinking about one of these and were sure if it was worth the extra for the AC.

I don't have one, however I do know some people who have them. Of course there will be problems, but in some places it can be difficult to find someone who will work on them.

My neighbor just cut a hole in the front of his popup and mounted a GE air unit from walmart. Just a little 5000btu and it works great. The factory units run about $700 and sit on the roof. I couldn't afford that. If you have elect. where you camp it's great. If you run a generator then I suggest a quiet one from Homelite. Unfortunately a 1000 watt costs about $1000. They are so quiet you can't hear them from 20ft away. My generator is 5000 watt and sounds like a jet aircraft taking off. It's perfect for what I bought it for but not for camping. You ever been camping where some idiots bring generators and keep everyone awake all night? Good luck.

Aren't you afraid of someone stealing it when you're hiking? I'm thinking it'd be worth it to a hiker to cut his trip short, grab it and run back to their car.

Why? Isn't the point of going camping, to be away from all of that stuff? I would rather park under the trees and take advantage of nature's air conditioning. If I ran in and out of the A/C all day, I would never feel right.

From what I understand from people who have had the units on pop-ups, as well as my own experience with pop-ups is this. make sure you are hooked up to shore electric because you will cycle it a lot. The pop-ups require more cooling to keep them cool and more heat to keep them warm when the temps dictate those systems be used.
While pop-ups are awesome, they don't hold heat or cool air very well being mostly fabric, even though it's heavy fabric.

Over 25 years I had 2 pop-urs both with ac and had really no problems. If ya camping in da deep south in the summer ac is all but a necessity. I know folks that have portable ac's they use tent camping. Ya gotta be plugged in for them to work, Thats true for all campers. I had no more problems with them than any ac unit. To my recolection over the years I only remember having them worked on like twice.When storing I always throw a tarp over the ac unit just to be safe. I must admit that the ac on topof my big coleman popup was its undoing though.during huricane Katrina the wind shreaded the tarp and was raining sideways. The rain came in through the airconditioner and ruined the trailer.Don't feel bad though, cuz it was a blessin'. Soon as we could we bought us a 18 ft ultra light trailer.We aint never looked back and I cant tell yall what a pleasure it is to back in a spot and not have to unhook and crank it up.

No problems with my buddies pop-up with A/C. He doesn't use it often though, just keeps the windows open at night - cools it right off in there. You can always have problems with pop-ups and any campers.
