Default Seeing black and blue!

In the winter months we keep our camper at a friends' farm. Apparently her kids got into it (broke into it) and now the door is broken. They refused to pay for it saying they don't know who did it but their kids confessed to mine.

Any legal recourse you guys can think of? I think their homeowners should cover it.

Hi...

I can understand you're wanting recompense for what those kids did.

The only legal advice I can give is to make a phone call to your attorney...or the cops...and see what they advise.

Question...would the repair/replacement of the camper's door be more than a legitimate fee for storing the camper (if one were charged)?

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

Forget the attorney. You have been Americanized. Take your unit somewhere else if you don't like the treatment. They were doing you a favor. How much do think it would cost to store your Rv somewhere compared to the cost of the door repair and a lost friendship?

Sounds like you need to decide how much the friendship is worth. If you're not paying for storage, you're saving yourself quite a bit of money. If you are, was the unit insured by you or by them? They may know their kids did it, but feel that they shouldn't have to pay because they were doing you a favor letting you keep your unit there.

I agree with ppine and Terry. I say forget the attorney. Repair the door and move the RV to a secure site and pay for the storage.

If your "friends" know that their children did it and refuse to take responsibility, they are children also and not really your friends. If it were me, I would pay for the damage, punish my children, and ask you politely to move your RV to another location.

Exactly what Pathfinder1 noted, honestly its hearsay and I am not sure how it would go in front of a judge but it might be worth a shot. You did leave it in their care and expected it back in the same condition, right?

I agree with many others. Is the value of the door more costly than the value of the friendship. If not just let go of it and move forward. If so then talk to the adults and let them know that the kids admitted to your children that they broke the door.

It's a sad way to get a lesson, but a lesson nonetheless. I'm sorry you had damage to your camper but like the others say, it's a lesson learned. If their kids did it and they won't admit it, then do you really want to be their friends? Do you really want your kids associating with hoodlums? Just say lesson learned and move on.

I'm not sure I would sue them - I would try to work it out. I certainly would get the camper and not store it there anymore. Lesson learned! I think its terrible that the kids don't tell the truth!

Thanks for the good advice. All I was thinking was 'sue sue sue' but when I did a cost analysis (which is what you guys did) I have saved a lot by them doing us a favor. I guess I was just ticked that they'd lie (or think their kids are angels-whichever). Thanks for hearing me out.
