Default Seriously considered it?

Have you ever seriously considered selling your house and just living full time in an RV and travelling year round? I'm not sure it's for me, but people do it.

I don't own a house. I haven't for almost five years. I own a ranch with a cabin that has solar electricity. I pretty much live off the land but I'm lazy enough to buy produce. I have a freezer that is constantly stocked with game and fish. I pick mushrooms and harvest onions, garlic, wild carrots and a few other tasties. Most of my fruit comes from the land too.

But, since my income is about 5 grand a month, I have a tendency to backslide towards being a complete jerk and not caring about my carbon footprint. Since I'm retired, I have a lot of time to be a complete jerk and there's no one there to tell me that I should be a better person. And, I don't really want anyone doing it.

You know, I've toyed with the idea. It is easy on those days when you hate your job and all the stress and you feel 'there's gotta be a better way'. I have a feeling though, that I still need roots and couldn't always be on the road.

Heck I have toyed with the idea of selling everything expect my backpacking gear and just living out of my pack sans the RV.

I combine the 2 by living in a big truck 26 days a month,I rent a house but I'm seriously considering buying an RV and just using it when I get home.I dislike borrowing money but my $850 I pay a month for the house will make a heck of an RV payment.

My husband and I have talked about it as a possibility after retirement (in 15 years ) I think it would wonderful, but I'm not sure it will ever happen. Maybe we'll do part time traveling, part time at home.

I'd think about it once in a while. Then again, I still am tied to my job. Maybe when I retire...

I know a retired couple who did this for a few years. They didn't sell their home though because they knew they weren't going to live in their RV for ever! They worked in campgrounds, I think KOAs and that helped a bit with expenses. They'd stay at each place they visited for a while because they weren't really well off and gas was expensive.

My wife and I are in the position where we could actually pull it off. I threw the RV and houseboat idea at her and the numbers that support it. I proved that we could make it work, stay connected and do all the things we love.
It scared her that I had put that much thought into it.

My parents always talked about doing that. They have a trailer on 10 acres of land and use to dream of moving out of the house and up to their property. They never did do it though. I couldn't see myself doing it either. I love the comfort and stability of a house.
