Default State Parks Or Private Park - Which Do You Like Better

We like to get away from it all when we camp, not be right on top of our neighbor. So we try to avoid private parks. They are more for the people who like to socialize I think. State parks are a lot better. Our only problem is getting our fifth wheel into the spots. They weren't designed for big units. It's worth it once we're in though. Which do you prefer and why?

Neither. They are both too crowded.

To get away from it all, go find a logging road or out of the way canyon somewhere.

What is meant by a private park? A KOA or something?

Really, anything other than a KOA-like setting is my preference. What I really like best is to "free form" camp in the national forests in the region where I live.

National Forest campground or dispersed camping only. Go where there isn't electric and water. Go where the big rigs won't fit.

I prefer to camp at State Parks but I will camp at private campgrounds too. It just depends on who we are going with and what we want to do. I love the hiking that State Parks offer.

Amen to that. Even the National Parks are getting too crowded. But thats why they are National Parks, they can get roads in to there. the good stuff is back beyond the roads.

I'll stay in a hotel before I'll camp in a private KOA kind of place. That isn't camping to me; it's a miserable night in a crowded trailer park. To each his/her own.

We use developed public sites (state parks, national parks, national forest) when we're on road trip vacations, rather than staying in hotels, or sometimes to get an early start on a hike. Most of our camping is dispersed, off the beaten path, whether car camping or backpacking.

I like the large parks. It doesn't really matter if they are private of government owned, what is important is if I can get right away from everything.

This spring, I'm looking into a 4 inch lift kit for the trailer to get back further.
