| I'll stay in a hotel before I'll camp in a private KOA kind of place. That isn't camping to me; it's a miserable night in a crowded trailer park. To each his/her own.
We use developed public sites (state parks, national parks, national forest) when we're on road trip vacations, rather than staying in hotels, or sometimes to get an early start on a hike. Most of our camping is dispersed, off the beaten path, whether car camping or backpacking.
