Primative National Forest camping. I don't like paying fees or staying at organized campgrounds.

I agree, not to mention on who you're camping with. Personally, I prefer State Parks and National Forest areas. At least once a year, I go camping with my folks in a sort of reunion thing. They prefer the private ones with all the luxuries. When that happens, I just go along with the flow. After all, they are still family.

Lorax,

How about turning the axles over?

Also, you mentioned a paddling forum. Which one do you like?

Thanks

As a matter of fact, I will be flipping the axles, but didn't think anyone would know what that meant, so I said lifting. With flip and block, I should get 4''

I go on a few places for paddling forum participation, mostly BWCA.com

Default private vs state

I've been going to KOA's sine early 70's.
The family has been since my son was 9 months old.
That's when I bought our popup.

KOA's are few and far between in the east coast area near NJ.
Close enough to your neighbor to talk , but far enough to be private.

I like both. I enjoy going with my family to state parks that are not too crowded. We also enjoy going to regular campgrounds. For us we usually combine a regular tourist type trip with camping so we choose a campground for sleeping, showering and cooking, but we also want it to be close to the roads so we can go on our day trips. If our only purpose for the trip is a "camping trip" then of course we want something more primitive.

Hi...

Here in NY we have no National Forests or Parks. However, I do use the State Parks/Forests, plus privately owned wildlands.

I have never had any desire to use a private or public campsite.

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

I dislike campgrounds period. I have used them as a cheap place to stay while traveling, or as place to spend a night before setting out in the early morning for a backpacking or canoe camping trip.

I've found that when I do need to stay in a campground I much prefer state campgrounds. There is almost always a little more breathing room at state facilities than private campgrounds where they try to shoehorn in as many sites as possible to increase revenue. The grounds and accommodations also seem to be a bit more natural looking and rustic at most state campgrounds.

New York state parks are a different story. Many are large a and remote especially if you have a canoe.
