So sorry to read about that guy, my prayers go out to his family. I had enough of those in Panama. They were notoriously brutal, a simple noise, like you walking pass them would set them off. I got nailed 5 times, in the head, within a few seconds. The first one felt like I got hit with a BB. It was center of my forehead, the rest were along the right side of my head and stopped in the back. I don't recall how far I ran through the jungle to get away, but it was several hours to get all 30 of us all linked up again. Even though I am plagued by allergies, I'm not allergic to bee stings. All I got was a killer head ache and slight swelling that lasted most of the day and night.

I know...what a way to go. Also interesting about your encounter with them. Glad you were able to get away.

Would you believe that...according to the Georga EPA (or something like that), they're already as far north as Georga...!! And are now found in various areas of our southwest, also.

I remember hearing about them when I was a kid. They were supposed to take over the whole country by the 90s. They didn't... took them a lot longer and they didnt go nearly as far as they originally expected.

I think the fire ants are making better progress than the bees!

It's funny when people complain about fire ants. We've had them in SC forever. They're just a fact of life, and as long as you don't step on them they're okay, and they love eating termites. the stings hurt a little, burn and itch, but I'd rather get stung by them than bees.

I got some really nasty bites from Fire ants! But you're right, if you're aware of them and leave them alone, there shouldn't be an issue. Those bees on the other hand are just plain mean, they'll come after you for making the slightest noise.
