Default Brain-eating amoeba’ claims second victim this month

Couldn't find the thread where others spoke of this so I started a new one. Sad story.

That is a sad thing to have happen. I've seen this on TV before how it affects people and slowly kills you. To bad they can't find a way to do away with something like this.

That is very sad. I can not imagine the heart break of that family. It is also very terrifying. I had no idea there was such a thing, but it's very freaky for sure.

Yeah, the brain eating amoeba is called Naegleria fowleri, and from what the article I read said it is 95% lethal. I think the worst year for it was 80 when 8 people died from it. The hotter it is out, the more likely there will be deaths.

I had never heard of this before either. I have to say that it is terrifying to know that something like that is present in the waters here in the United States.

I hadn't heard of it either, but I feel so bad for their families. I think it's just been a bad summer for this because of the heat. It's amazing what types of organisms are out there that can cause problems.

I hate to hear something like that. It's so tragic and my heart goes out to those families. We usually have a couple of meningitis cases when our local universities come back in session. I don't know why it happens, it just does.

I was infected with these but they died of starvation.

A few dead each year from an amoeba isn't that bad. We have much worse in the US. Deer kill 150-200 people per year in the US.
