Default The cold!

The cold weather is reminding me how fortunate I am to have never been in a survival situation in the cold! If you were to get stuck without layers, or knowledge, on what to do, you could be in big trouble.

I'm not a fan of the cold winter weather. If I'm out and about in the cold, I make sure I have plenty of gear just in case.

Hi...

I just posted a poem on Traveler's Tavern that tells about Alaska's four (some say two) seasons...!!

Get out of the wind, build a fire, and build a shelter. Use plant materials for insulation.

Hi...

Yes, you could indeed be in big trouble. The trick is to carry with you the gear you need to aid yourself under those conditions. Conditions that ppine mentions, for example.

When you're afield, be prepared, not a statistic.

We all gotta start with the knowledge. Then the rest comes easy. Remember the lost little boy this fall that buried himself in the leaves to stay warm at night and stayed by the stream in the day until they could find him?

I remember that! There's been several times now that small children lasted through the night or even several day alone. It's amazing how resilient they are.
