| All right. Answers time. Although all of you got most of them right. There was an occasional incorrect answer but you all got almost all of them right. Good job.
1. Your plane goes down in remote Alaska. After a few days you are out of water and are starting to show signs of dehydration. Is eating the snow an option?
A - Yes
B - No No. Eating snow when you're already exposed in the cold will bring on hypothermia a lot faster. The only time it is acceptable to eat snow is if you boil it or melt it down to where it's not real cold anymore.
2 - How much water can you lose before you die?
A - 1%
B - 5%
C - 10%
D - 15% D. 15%.
3. Your lost in the Sahara Desert. Which of the following should you do to ensure survival?
A - Strip down naked.
B - Take your pants off, piss on them and then wrap them around your head.
C - Conserve your water as much as possible.
D - Eat regularly. B. It sounds really gross but it can save your life. The damp pants around your head will keep you cooler and able to function and think better.
Stripping down naked exposes you to the sun and will make things worse. Conserving water in the desert is a no-no. Drink normally. Your body will function much better and you'll live longer if you drink normal. Many dead people have been found in the desert with water in their canteens. And eating when you're lost in the desert with little water is bad. Food consumes and absorbs the water you drink.
4 - You are caught in quicksand up to your upper-torso and are not touching bottom. What do you do?
A - Try and swim out.
B - Try and walk out.
C - Float to the top and crawl out.
D - Make jerking lunges towards the edge. Float to the top and crawl out. Do it v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y.
5 - Where is the best place to build your shelter in the wildrerness?
A - Dry river bed
B - Near water
C - Low ground
D - Dry, drained ground Dry, drained ground. Dry river beds are bed because if it floods you're screwed. Building it near water attracts insects, bugs and other annoying flying things. Low ground is bad because cold air lingers in valleys and such.
6 - Which is the most valuable tool in your backpack?
A - Knife
B - First aid kit
C - Waterproof matches
D - Fishing kit Knife is your most important tool you can have.
7 - Which is a symptom of hypothermia?
A - Blurry vision
B - Hunger
C - Clumsy coordination
D - Thirst C. Clumsy coordination. If you experience this you need to find shelter quickly or find a way to warm up.
8 - How much water should you drink in one day?
A - 1 liter
B - 2 to 4 liters
C - 1/2 a liter
D - 6 liters 2-4 liters is recommended. However you can survive with less if need be.
9 - You are lost in the forrest and desperately need food. Which one is the least recommended to try?
A - Hunting
B - Fishing
C - Trapping
D - Find edible plants A. Hunting is time consuming and you exert a lot more energy doing it. Unless you're an experienced and seasoned hunter you should avoid this.
10 - You are trying to hike out of Alaska to a town 2 days away. When should you stop and build a fire?
A - Ears get cold
B - Feel frozen
C - Start to shiver
D - When you get tired C. Shivering hard on a constant basis is a big sign your body is too cold and trying to warm itself up. You need to get warm soon.
11 - What do you use to find the North Star?
A - Big Dipper
B - Orion's Belt
C - Little Dipper
D - Southern Cross A. Big Dipper.
12 - You see a red sky at dusk. What kind of weather can you normally expect?
A - Good weather
B - Bad weather A. Good weather. Red sky in the morning usually means bad weather is incoming. Remember the old sailor addage - "Red sky in morning, sailor take warning. Red sky at night, sailor's delight.
13 - What is the international signal for distress?
A - 1 fire
B - 2 fires
C - 3 fires
D - 4 fires C. Three fires. Build them in a straight line or triangle.
14 - You're stranded in the mountains and have to make shelter. Where is the best place?
A - Top of mountain
B - Bottom of mountain
C - Middle
D - Doesn't matter C. Middle. At the top it's too cold and windy. At the bottom is bad because the cold air hovers near the ground. Best bet is to find somewhere near the middle to lower-middle. It's the best of the evils.
15 - You must cross a stream in the middle of winter. How specifically do you cross it without dying of hypothermia? Strip down to the way God created you. Hold all firearms and clothes over your head or place them in a bag of some sort to keep absolutely dry. Then cross. After you're across put on your clothes and build a fire and get warm and you should be fine.

| Thanks Gunny! Fun quiz and I learned a few things. Hopefully won't be caught in Alaska without a guide, lost in the Sahara, or stuck in quicksand!
