Default Homemade Snares

Is there a good book, that teaches you how to make your own snares for animal trapping? I thought this information might be handy to know, and add to survival techniques I have already learned.

You can look online and find plenty of information on how to make and set snares and traps. We actually keep the stuff you need to do it in our BOB's and our adventuring backpacks.

A long time ago, I read SAS Survival Handbook by John Wiseman. It is a great book, with survival techniques for many situations. I believe there was a section about making snares, to trap animals. Either way, this book is definately great for adding to your survival knowledge.

The SAS Survival Handbook, is a must read for anyone interested in survival techniques. The book covers so many terains, and how to deal with each one. You should see if your library has a copy.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming. I have been meaning to order that book, from Amazon, but it keeps slipping my mind. I have scanned the internet on homemade snares, I just prefer books. I love reading, and adding to my book collection.

I think you'll be fine with the SAS survival handbook, Most other books seem to just repeat each other. Here's a site that was posted on another thread in this forum, it's got a lot of good references.

Thanks for that link oldsarge.

I don't have a book but I have a pamphlet that has the basic survival skills needed in the wild. We can create snares from the twigs and the fibers of plants but we need the know how to create one.

If your looking for a book on how to make cordage, Try "Bushcraft" by Richard Graves, published by Warner Books. It also has a great section on traps & snares.

I second the thank you, to Sarge, for sharing the link. I have bookmarked the link, so I can reference it, if I need to. Do you think a bookstore carries the Bushwacked book, or do I have to order it online?

You may find the book "Bushcraft" here, I purchased it back in 78 or 79.

Amazon.com: Bushcraft (9780446968072): Richard Graves: Books

It's out of print now, but there are still copies around. There is another book titled the same. Here's one at Amazon.com

Amazon.com: Bushcraft: Outdoor Skills and Wilderness Survival (0779101051227): Mors Kochanski: Books

I'm thinking of picking it up.
