I've had a gerber multi-tool for many years and it still works great. For backpacking, I use the small winchester model as well. Much lighter and just as solid. However, in all the years I have carried a multi-tool, I think the pliers are the only function I have ever used. I also carry a "benchmade" folding knife. I guess I just don't get lost enough or have my equipment break down enough to use all those other functions.

Same with all those attachments on the Swiss Army knife Grandpa. But it's nice to have a little something extra just in case!
