Default Above ground tent

Hi,

I don't know anything about tents or camping outdoor, I'm heading to Haiti to volunteer in humanitarian logistics and I will be living in a tent for a year.

Now since I probably won't move that tent around often and that it can get rainy during the hurricane season I was wondering if anybody knows some good websites/book that would offer one or more schematics for tent setups. More precisely I'm looking for a schematic that would help me adress lots of rain on a dirt ground with no trees around.

I was thinking about a simple 1 foot high elevated platform with poles for an extra plastic sheeting over the tent. I've read most of the threads about moats/tarps and sealer for seams but I'd like to have something that will ensure that I'm off the ground.

Thanks in advance

-V

Whatever tent you get also look for one with a tub floor. This will also help keep you dry. IF you are going to be living in it for some time may also want to brings an extra supply of waterproofing to apply on dry days.

I might also consider a bivy to keep in case the tent start to leak so that you ahve 2 layers to keep you dry if needed.

I believe that there are quite a few Kodiak canvas tents in use down there. Are they making you supply your own shelter?
