Default Camping app?

I am learning that there is an app for just about everything. Are there any camping apps out there? Are any of them free? What kinds of things can you use them for?

geargrams.com

it helps you manage packing lists and keep track of your pack weight
you input each piece of gear, its description, weight, etc. into your gear library and then you can start making packing lists. (winter multi-day backpacking, spring overnight backpacking, etc.) and see exactly how much your pack will weigh.

It's easy to use and it's all done through the website, so you can access your info anywhere.

Newanderthal, I just checked it out and I have to say that is a fantastic site. I guess there really are apps for everything. I wish I new how to make my own app. I could make a great one for camping.

Regarding apps, I was recently contacted by a group making apps for iphones and ipads showing trails. I can't give you much information yet as this is just developing for me this week, but I can say detailed trails apps are on the way.

While this is not camping specific, I use the Google Sky Map app often when I am camping. I also have a First Aid app downloaded that I've thankfully never had to use.

I just recently installed the Camping app by CampingRoadTrip.com in my iPhone. It's pretty nifty to help you find RV sites and campgrounds right away with reviews and a whole lot of details. I know that they have also a version for Android phones. It's not free, though. I got mine for $2.99. I don't know how much the Android version is. But it's definitely worth it. At least for me.

Hope this helps you.

I have only used the weather app when we are out and about, might need to check into this one if it works for an iPhone. Are most app's phone specific?

My brother had one that used satellites to function as an altimeter.

Check the Andriod Market or Itunes. There is a bunch of good GPS apps out there. Only problem with using this is battery life.
