Rain has been good and bad in my book. It was extremely peaceful one night when it rained while we camped on state land off the pigeon river. We had already set up camp prior to the rain and had decent tree cover to move around outside the tents when necessary.

Rain has also put a damper on plans while at more modern style campgrounds as they tend to offer less coverage in most cases. When a real bad storm came through we were forced, by park officers, to pack up and head home.

Rain can be good and bad, it all lies in the situation but the older I get the dryer the conditions I desire.

Hi...

I don't dislike rain. As a teenager I used to go out nights in the foggy rain...flashlight in hand...to see if I could spot any wildlife. When I'm camping, rain doesn't enthuse me at all, though.

Rain-caused flash flooding in this area has washed away entire campgrounds that were situated to close to waterways. This has happened more than once...even to the same campgrounds.

Huge trailer parks in this area have also had to be evacuated because of severe flooding conditions. In these instances, they were (again) located on approximately the same level as the nearby river(s).

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

I would not mind a good rain. I love the smell of the rain and the outdoors before and after the rain. I don't even mind the tornado warnings, what did me in was a huge thunderstorm and freezing rain. We were cold and wet, slept in the truck...the dogs had ticks, it was horrendous. We haven't been camping since, five years ago.

My husband loves camping during a storm. He also thinks the rain is really soothing. I for one, do not like camping during rain storms for many reasons. First of all, the rain on the tent keeps me up at night. Also, I sit there through the night wondering and worry if we are under a tree that might end up falling. Another thing is that when it's raining I like to be in my tent. However, I also do not like sitting in my tent for the entire weekend, because it defeats the purpose of camping. In my opinion camping is when you can enjoy the lake by fishing or swimming. Sitting out by the campfire is a must as well. You can't enjoy this when it is raining.

If my tent is in the muddy spot and it starts to rain on the location I am camping on, I will just pack up and head home. I don't want my camping experience to feel messy. I'd rather have sunshine for the day.
