Default Car camping or more remote?

When you are just looking to get away for the weekend are you more likely to car camp or look for a more secluded spot? I like the convenience of having the car close by and taking a day trip out of the camping site.

I like the seclusion and serentity that comes with hiking in a few miles or canoeing a ways, but I enjoy all camping.

I very much prefer hiking in away from others. I can't stand car camping. I hate having neighbors chatter, lanterns, cars packing up at 6:00 am, etc.

The only thing I don't mind is the occasional airplane overhead.

One of my favorite places has a lot where everyone can park. Then there are sites spread out through the forest and plains. They are usually far enough away from each other that it feels fun, but leaves you with in 1-5 miles of your car.

For a quick get away I don't mind car camping at all. I like to use my van to stealth camp.

Got a favorite place. the campground is very basic- tent platform , picnic table and fire ring. no water, not even a hand pump. Pit toilets. Except for holiday weekends there is hardly every anyone there.

There is a shooting range a mile away, and a nice lake for fishing and canoeing. It's my weekend getaway place. I can paddle shoot, fish or just loaf. Only an hour's drive from the house, too!

I'm working my way towards backpacking these days. My last walk in site was perfect for an intro to camping for the rest of my siblings, but my 68 pound canvas tent will never be carried into a site again! That tent plus all the cooking equipment nearly wore me out hauling it back to the car after a week!!!If only my dog were a little bigger we could pull a wagon together.

For years I backpacked almost exclusively. When we had our first baby, the mileage got shorter on backpacking trips, and we began to car camp more often just because it was easier. Now we have two kids, and backpacking hasn't happened for a while. We're reluctant car campers these days. We typically do "dispersed camping" somewhere on the national forest (no facilities or official campground). We sometimes use FS sites with a pit toilet and perhaps a water hydrant, but try hard to avoid the more developed campgrounds. To each his/her own, but I can't really understand the fun of going to spend the night in a little tent city or trailer/RV park with generators humming all around.

I agree with grandpa but I do like to be away from the generator crowd.
