Default Coldest tent camping

What is the coldest tent camping you will do? Like if you are planning to go camping, and you see the weather forecast what is the lowest temperature you will still go as planned?

This depends on the circumstances. If I have a choice, I won't go if the forecast is below 10. But I will be prepared for much colder.

When grandson just got into scouts, they were planning a winter camping trip. Daughter called frantic because Son-in-law had to work and couldn't go with. Forecast was for -20with possible wind. So I packed up the cold weather gear and headed to her place. Hate to say we didn't trust the leaders but..........Taking a bunch of 11 yr olds out in that weather and not knowing their training or what gear they were bringing?? Anyway, they did cancel the trip until a later date but I was very curious to see what kind of program they had planned because Jake had received no special info on what to bring or even what gear he had available to bring.

Coldest night out so far in a tent is -9. I've been in colder in a snow cave though.

Before we had kids, we used to spend a few days each February camping and x-country skiing in Yellowstone. One weekend, the highs were between 0 and 10, and it was well below zero at night. We were geared up, and it was OK. Typically, I don't like to be out when it hurts to breathe, for me around 10-15 degrees during the day is the point I'd rather stay home.

Hunting trips can be the coldest, and you can't change the date. Below zero is ok if you have a canvas tent and a wood tin stove. It is possible to walk around in and dry out in the evening. I have cooked in my 10 x 14 foot wall tent lots of times in blizzards.

I just got new 20* down bag that will be my top quilt in my hammock so I might be good to the teens and with a thin pad even lower. I will now use 2 down throws made into under quilts and the 20 degree bag and should be good to 20 maybe lower. I have several things I can add on the bottom to get another 10 degrees lower. My face gets to cold any lower than that, although I'm thinking about some new tweaks for that.

I did 17F one night when I was expecting 25F. That's about the limit of my equipment and disposition. Colder than that and I'm going home. I'm a deep south kinda guy and don't like the cold,

I'd guess around 10F. Temperature dived like a stone during the night from about 40F. by morning a 5 gallon bladder of water that we left outside was frozen solid. We were in a a canvas wall tent with 30 degree bags and a three burner coleman stove and a coleman lantern going all night. Had frost on the inside of the tent LOL. I was about 18 and had a lot to learn.
