I like to travel light when I tent camp, so I think I would pass on hauling an item like a water heater with extra propane with me. I would warm up twice though---once from the heater, once from hauling it!

I'd usually just heat up some water using the good ol' campfire, except when I'm with my folks, in which case, I just knock and use their shower with a heater attached to it.

I have often asked the same question. When my girl is happy she wants to go camping.

A solar shower works great for bathing. For dish washing just heat some water in a pot on the stove. I like to bring a steel enamel wash basin for washing up. This fall in cold weather I put it on the stove with some water to wash with. If that's not enough consider an RV or at least a large canvas tent with a wood stove.

Or if you have a gas or propane camp stove, just heat a pan of water on that.

I don't take a water heater, but I don't go anywhere without my hot water bottle. It gets the perfect temperature for washing hair by morning too.

Re: you can use black containers in the summer

Or the translucent, collapsible water containers work pretty well in the sun too.

Also, if you have camp stove and large pot, that can double as a water heater, saving you space and the extra cost of one more gadget.
