Default Looking for Camp Shower Ideas

Hi,

Has anyone figured out how to hook a shower hose and head to a standard five-gallon collapsible plastic water jug, the kind most of us use to carry drinking and cooking water?

I know water-shower bags are available, but many of the reviews complain about leaking, shoddy construction, and other issues.

Besides, since we already have the jug, we thought it would be redundant to have a separate shower system, if we can make a hose work.

The trick is to get a shower hose that's compatible with the water jug.

Thanks for any ideas,

Bill

Hi...

Yes, I do. Trying to explain the parts and connections in writing are almost beyond my capability, though.

I would recommend that you go to a local plumbing supply house (or, in some instances, a hardware store) and tell them what you want to do. They might be able to help you out, and may also supply you with the parts you will need

Couldn't you just fix a hose in the bucket, hook the bucket to a high branch and syphon the water out? Kinda like I do when I borrow gas from the neighbors.

Solar showers work great especially forwarmer weather. They work fine and can really help some women and others who are cleanniks. Don't worry about what other say about them. For cold weather, water heated on a stove and a sponge bath work fine.

I guess that will be my next step, to try to find the parts that can be cobbled together. Given the number of bags plus hoses on the market, I'm surprised some company hasn't come up with the idea of having a hose that would fit the collapsible water jugs that many campers already have.

I've found that these semi-transparent containers warm up nicely in the sun.

If I come up with a solution and maybe where to get the parts online, I'll report back.

After creating this thread and reading the comments, I remembered photos (see attachments) taken back in circa 1974 of a shower setup I had created from an old, cheapie shower hose that I had at the time, which I was somehow able to attach to a water container. Worked really well.

The water got quite warm from sitting in the sun all day.

Anyone know where to buy that kind of really cheap, plastic/rubber hose?

UPDATE: I'm seeing a lot of pet-related shower hoses/heads that might work. Some have an expandable connector to fit over a faucet; the right size might fit over the neck of a large water container. And most are inexpensive; maybe $10 or so.

Looked at a Zodi shower yet? I have the Zodi that looks like a 3 gallon bug sprayer. It sits on a tripod with a burner to heat up, then put the pump in and add hose. HELLO warm water at good pressure. Used it at 5000 feet elevation, rainy and coolish (60 degrees) and was it great!
Highly recommend one. I think I sold 2 other people in the camp site on them.

Thanks, Gunny.

I posted a reply on the related thread that you responded to. As I say there, the unit is a bit too expensive, but I'm looking at the less expensive option that doesn't include the heater.
