I actually slipped my sleeping pad into a hammock and used spreader bars to keep the hammock from closing to tightly. Worked great!

This is so true, I went to Lost Lake with the scouts when I was younger and I accidentally left my sleeping pad at home, well nobody in troop 256 had any extra so I had to sleep with a root up my butt the whole time (my tent mate wouldn't let me move the tent...)
