Default Reserching Tent Leaks

Hello, my name is Josh and I am a senior at Niskayuna High School and am taking a class called Engineering Design and Development. For this class my group and I must first think of problems by asking the question, “Don’t you hate it when.” Once we have some ideas, we must prove they are problems. Part of this process is sending out surveys to people who we believe could give us some good feedback. Attached to the bottom of this page is a survey and it would be very helpful if you could fill it out. Thanks.

1. How often do you go camping?

2. When you go what do you sleep in?
  • Tent
  • RV/Trailer
  • Cabin/Lean-to

3. What type of weather have you experienced while camping?
  • Rain
  • Snow
  • Both
  • No Precipitation

4. Does your tent ever leak?
  • All the time
  • Sometimes
  • Never

5. If so, where does it leak?
  • Floor
  • Fly
  • Seams
  • Zippers

6. Have you found a solution?

7. If so what is it?

We camp a couple times a month, three seasons. We used to also camp in the winter, but not since having kids. We use high quality tents. We've been in all kinds of weather- blowing rain, blizzards, ice storms. We've never had a leaking tent. Weather proof tents have bathtub style floors that lift the floor seams off the ground, factory taped seams, full length rain flies that fully cover all seams and zippers, multiple guyline points to add strength and withstand wind, and pole designs that shed wind/rain/snow.

1. How often do you go camping?
It depends on my work schedule, but the easy answer is "as often as I can". I tend to camp/backpack a lot more in the cooler months. I try for about 10 times a year.

2. When you go what do you sleep in?
Tent. If the weather is nice, I bring a small tarp and sleep beneath that.

3. What type of weather have you experienced while camping?
Rain, snow, hail, lightning, hurricanes

4. Does your tent ever leak?
Never

5. If so, where does it leak?
...

6. Have you found a solution?

7. If so what is it?

I've helped friends use seam sealer to stop leaks. they told me it worked great.

hope this helps
