Look up that chasm lake hike. I am not sure on the distance but it is around 9 miles going around chasm lake and not doing Longs peak. It can be shortened by staying on the near side of the lake. I think you can also backpack in and spend the night by the lake. It may fit into your acclimatization. There are hikes of all lengths and difficulties in RMNP. Dream lake or Emerald lake, I think Emerald is the furthest out, is 6 mile out and back taking you to near 11000" and is beautiful. I don't have the guide book in hand so the details are from memory.

Definitely acclimate. This past summer we were there, and those 4 days acclimating beforehand at Beaver Creek were crucial. I believe there are no campgrounds of RMNP below about 8,000 feet.
