If you're concerned about the aluminum pole, put something underneath it to isolate it from the ground. With no ground potential in the pole, it will be pretty much invisible to the lightning.

Lightning will sometimes strike and travel along a wash or ravine, as these areas are moister than the surrounding dry ground. I would not squat in a low area.
