Default Winter Camping

Just curious here. How many of you like to camp in the winter? I won't go if it's below 40 degrees where I'm camping. I stay cold anyway and the challenge of winter is just something I don't want to do unless I have to.

We camped last year near the Grand Canyon in a pop-up trailer. It was a brisk 16 degrees for 2 nights that we were there. We stayed surprisingly warm and comfy. It was a great experience. Try it some time, its not as bad as tend to think.

I am not really a fan of winter activity at all - I hibernate like the bears! If it is somewhat warm, I will bundle up for a good hike, but camping - no way!

Winter camping is great fun (with the right gear)
Without it it's nothing more than a lesson in survival

Winter camping offers you a different view of Nature and gives you a chance to better know yourself.

Love winter camping but I don't use a tent. I live a stones throw away from different access point to the Long Trail/Appalachian Trail and tend to shelter camp.

Nice to be able to walk out and hit the AT Jobiwan...I live approx 3 miles from the AT and can access it by a small game trail along Mt Rogers or White Top Mt.

Brrrr... it is snowy here a lot in the winter so we don't camp in tents in the winter. We have camped in a cabin in the winter but never a tent or camper.

Winter camping is not for everyone but it can be the best time of the year to camp if you like solitude. # things are important to know. First of all you need to plan your trip more carefully than a warm weather trip. Make sure you have the right gear and that you know how to use it. And most importantly, make sure you are mentally prepared. If you go out worried that you won't like it or with a bad attitude towards the weather conditions, then you probably will not enjoyb yourself and you are endangering yourself right from the get go. Attitude will make or break your experience.

Just remember there is no bad weather, only bad clothes. Build big fires and bring lots of food. Canvas tents with wood stoves rule.

Realize that many places in the US are below 40 degrees at night in the summer, not mention the other times of the year.
