Default Pennsylvania man battles black bear in own living room; saves wife but suffers head w

A Pennsylvania man narrowly survived a vicious attack by a black bear - in his own home.
Rich Moyer let his dog out the back door of his house in Newport around 3 a.m. Monday as he got ready for work, he told the media outside his home.
Shortly afterwards, the dog started howling. Moyer opened the back door and the half pit bull, half husky mutt darted in with the big black bear in hot pursuit.
"Right on her tail was the bear," Moyer told reporters, according to CBS 21 News.
The bear then turned her attention to Moyer. The 6-foot, 6-inch man was knocked to the ground and quickly found himself wrestling with the animal in his own living room.
Moyer fought to get the bear out the same door he'd come in through. During the fight, his wife, Angela, came downstairs and was knocked outside onto the patio.
The bear got on top of her. Meyer then fought to save his wife, and that's when the worst of the attack happened.

And some people say I'm crazy because I always carry a BIG gun.

Wow! We just had a bear in my area he was perfectly content to knock over garbage cans and hold up traffic downtown. It's a good reminder as to how dangerous they can be. Glad everyone is OK.

I can not even imagine, having a bear wrestle me, inside my own home. I would be horrified! I do not think we have bear sightings, where I live. That man is so lucky he is still alive.

Good Lord! and Amen Grandpa...people wonder why I carry a .45 everyday, but I don't know if a .45 would stop a bear. Probably take more than one shot. I don't know any people that will get up after taking a .45 to the chest though. There seem to have been a lot of bear attacks recently.

Ouch! I would have had trouble with that too. Darned bear! Poor man was just defending his territory and then the bear had to come in uninvited, how rude! You just can't teach a bear manners.

These incidents occur on a regular basis in places like Lake Tahoe largely because people are careless with their garbage collection, bird feeders, dog food and other things that attract bears. These are the most dangerous bears because they associate humans with food and lose their fear of them.
