Do Armadillos Bite?

I saw the picture of armadillos on the front page and I wondered about them. I've never seen one in person but I was wondering if the little critters bite?
I'd love to touch one to see what they feel like. It looks like a hard shell they have on their backs, Is it?

They are a wild animal so I don't know if I would treat them like a domestic animal. I've touched one before, they have a sort of hard shell, but it also feels like skin with really stiff bristles sort of like a scrub brush. I wouldn't pet them though.
