Default Do you stop and enjoy the scenery while hiking?

There are times when I'm on a hike that I'm so focused and intent on getting to the end that I barely notice anything. But then there are other times, usually when I'm with the family, that we take our time and appreciatet our surroundings. I've found the kids love to point out, and have so much fun, in the discovery of what's out there.

So do you take time to "smell the roses"?

Sometimes. That's the short answer.

The long answer is that it depends on where we're going. If the hike is long and tiring then we will stop mainly when we're tired. But sometimes I just like to get THERE you know? It is important to stop and enjoy life, you're right.

Yes, I like to stop and take in the scenery and enjoy the experience. If I can't go at my pace I don't go at all.

With this heat we are having, the answer is not really. If the weather is nice and the scenery is nice I will take a few minutes to enjoy it.

I try to always take enough time to be very aware of everything around me like scenery. It depends on a few factors, though... like for one of them, I hate high heat and humidity so if it's one of those days, I'm more likely grumbling to myself about "why am I HERE?!" and not really enjoying the hike.

Yes, why else would I hike? I want to see everything along the way. I like to try to identify the plants, flowers, trees, insects, animals...etc. That's why I go hiking in the first place. Why hurry?

I do enjoy the scenery, and nature in general. There are times when I'll stop just to listen. I live in the city, so when I go out on my hikes, I love to just listen to the sounds and peace of nature.

Yes I do stop whenever I see or hear anything that is interesting. Sometimes just to sit and listen to the wind blowing the tree tops, or watch a turtle scoot by, or maybe try to find that woodpecker pecking on a tree. I even try to take interesting pictures along the trail or sky.

Enjoying the scenery is the whole point. If you are not going to do that, you might as well just drive to where you are going. The sights, the sounds, the smells, are all the reasons why I go hiking in the first place.
