Default Hydration pack

What is a good size hydration pack to have starting out? I bought one but it seems far too small. Is there a recommended amount of water to have per person?

I always error on the side of the larger the better. I think the bare minimum, that is not being outdoors, in the heat and working, is about half a gallon of water. Being outdoors, I would say 8 oz of water every hour maybe two.

Get a 3 liter. If you're not going to be out long enough to need it, only fill it halfway.

Do they come in 3 Liter? I have only ever seen 2 Liter and 1 Liter. I will definitely have to look at the local camp supply shop for a bigger one. Can you buy replacement heads for those hydration packs?

Amazon.com: CamelBak M.U.L.E. 100-Ounce Hydration Pack: Sports & Outdoors

100oz - 3 liters

I love the thing.

You can usually find replacements and nifty add-ons, either amazon or most local well stocked stores.

Wow, thanks for the link, I am really new to this whole outdoors thing, my husband was in to it way before me and he is slowly bringing me to the other side, lol

I also have a MULE. I really love the thing.

3L of water has consistently been plenty for me; I have yet to run out on a hike. With careful packing, I've managed to fit all of my usual hiking equipment (first aid kit, sun screen, Mora, etc) and a change of clothes.

Wow, I may have to get me one of those. I would like to have a big bag as well, I have a small one I just use for small hikes. I need to learn to pack better.

I actually just worked through the issue of needing to pack better recently. I forced myself to fit all I would need into my MULE for a hike (including all my usual safety gear) as well as the stuff I would need to stay at a friend's for the night. It was an eye opening experience. It's kind of amazing what you can cut down to when you only take what you need, and not what you want.

I know, its crazy but I seem to over prepare for things. I hate going for something and not having packed it thats why I always seem to have taken too much and my back pays for that.
