Default Ireland

I have heard that if you plan a vacation out there to go ahead and find a place close for some trails too, its a good idea. We both have Irish in us so it is one place on the list of many to pick from. Has anyone gone that could recommend both an area for hiking and for other stuff (like family fun, non out-doors)?

The Dingle Peninsula has it all. It is one of the favorite places for the Irish to go on vacation. The Comemarra area in the northwest is a close second.

I don't find Ireland to be all that beautiful compared to places like the Pacific Northwest. What is remarkable is the friendliness of the people, the history and the public houses. The Irish love Americans and welcome us with open arms. Erin used to be forested, but is now average farmland. I have been married to two Irish women, at different times and love the culture. Guiness is good for you.

Whatever you, please don't kiss the Blarney Stone. My BF's cousins live nearby and at night they sneak in to pee on it.

The Wicklow Mountains were very scenic

We also loved the Dingle Peninsula; we stayed at Heaton's Guest House in Dingle and I thought it would be the perfect place to return for a week and just read a book from their porch!

I'm going to say County Cork only because that is where my family came from. You have the Blarney Stone, Cobh which is the port many emigrants left from and the last stop of the Titanic. Fota Island has Fota Wildlife Park which is the only wildlife park in Ireland.

I have Irish blood, too, and have wanted to visit Ireland for years. I never thought of doing any trail hiking there, what a terrific idea! Wow, the Wicklow Mountains, just beautiful!

Firedancer, that picture is just beautiful! The only time I have been across the pond I went to Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. If I ever make the journey again, Ireland will be at the top of my list.
