Default Lava tubes, anyone into them

Out here in the west there is so many lava tubes. From big to small, long to short. I love lava tubes with a passion. Anyone else on here done or have a interest in lava tubes. Or have any questions about them. I have done about 45 mapped ones and maybe around 100 unmapped lava caves. I love wandering the mountains looking for lava tubes. Find them a lot somtimes. What I like about them is how wild, jagged, rough, and the fact it was formed by lava thousands of years ago. Me and my wife have done one cave were several sections were only 12inches tall. Our first camping trip together we spent 3 days doing lava tubes. It is funny spending your camping trip underground all day to come out when the sun goes down. So you have a day or several in darkness.

I love lava tubes. Where are you from, I'm in cali. Maybe we can go spelunking sometime.

Alice came to a fork in the road," Which road do I take"? she asked.
"Where do you want to go"? responded the cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter".

Hello,

I recently bought property in Hawaii and judging by the geological features and location it is highly likely that part of the Kazumura cave system is under the property. There is a lava tube opening but it only goes back about 20 feet, I don't remember the correct nomenclature but I believe the bottom of the tube is actually the ceiling of a smaller tube (a tube within a tube is the description). There a tumulus about 30 feet from the opening. I have done a search on the property looking for an opening, but haven't found one yet. The Ohia forest is dense, in some places visibility through it is less than four feet, and it takes a lot of machete time to explore. Any information or recommendations you can give me would be greatly appreciated. My idea is if I can't find a natural opening, I would try to make one. I was thinking of drilling some exploratory holes and seeing if there is indeed a void under the rock. The cave system is at least 40 miles long and there are about 100 known natural openings.

Im glad you explained them. I figured they were bland roundish tubes, much like highway culverts or something. I figured nothing could be more dull than that. I like limestone caves with all the decorative features. Lava tubes could be interesting after all. Never been in a cave outside of those Appalachian "tour" caves where there's handrails and lightbulbs installed. Something a little different could be fun.

Took my cub scouts to Bobcat cave out in the Snake River desert. They asked why the name. Didn't dream we'd find a Den of baby bobcats in there.

That would be great to experience. I never knew they were out west in Cali. I lived out there for several years. I would have defintely checked them out.

I did not know what a lava tube was, so thanks for bringing this topic up! Lava tubes sound very interesting, but I do not think we have any where I live. I would love to plan a trip to check lava tubes out. All I have seen are caves in a guided tour.

Idaho, no. CA, and Hawaii. They are nice on a hot day to go into the cool ground. Bring three sources of light, because it is really dark in there.
