| Burned up We went to a close man made lake this weekend and I was burned up within minutes but I never felt anything, until I got home. I heard that staying hydrated is a great key and I did drink a ton of bottled water but I still felt horrid after. When you are out on the boat whats the best way to avoid turning lobster?

| The last time I did this I had went out on a quick trip or so I thought, we managed to get lost and we all came back looking redder than can be. My niece did the same going to the beach this weekend and she looks hotter than the sun!

| Water amplifies the intensity of the damaging sun's rays. You really have to watch and sunscreen up when you go around any water. I use BullFrog stuff since it's waterproof and I sweat like a sieve when I'm doing anything. Just remember, any damage you do now, it going to be felt down the line.

| Use aloe vera - apply it every few hours and you should be feeling better soon. I got a terrible sunburn a couple weeks ago and it was windy out! You should know that you really have to lather on the sunblock when you go near the water.

Anyone who burns these days with all of the knowledge we have about skin cancer is being foolish. They say that it only takes 3 burns to put us at risk for skin cancer down the road.

| I feel for you all I can burn but it doesn't happen much. I burn on the tips of my shoulders and I don't like it much for a day or so. Then I get better. I've never used sunscreen because I figure the sun is there for a reason. If I'm out of it, it's because I'm supposed to be. If I'm exposed to it, I have to deal with it.
The rest of you wussies can deal with it as you can. The Sun is not bad for you. It is good for you. Nothing should be taken to excess but the Sun is a good thing. If you don't believe me, tell me why. I'd be more than happy to prove you wrong with scientific accuracy.

Dinosaur, you are correct that limited amounts of sun exposure are good for elevating our Vitamin D levels (about 15 minutes outdoors daily), however you seem to be genetically blessed to not have suffered severe sunburns from limitless outdoor activity. I have to wonder why you bother to wear hats at all! There are multitudes of benefits from being outdoors in the fresh air and sunlight, however, melanomas, squamous cell carcinomas and basil cell skin cancers are not for the faint of heart, especially for the beautiful women in anyones family. I don't care to, nor will I go into any debates with you on this matter, but purchase sunscreen for your daughter and her friends to use around the pool. It may make a big difference to them 30-40 years from now!!!
Happy 62nd B-Day!!!!

| Red hair, blues eyes and freckles...that's how I grew up. The sun did it's worst to me, fried me like a BBQ potato chip. Try as I might, I'll never be the bronze god like some of you, more like a screemin hot pork rind! Don't hate the sun, just respect he **** out of it!!!

| I'm lucky as well. Only time I ever burn is when my farmers tan sneaks out from under somewhere, and even then, the sting is gone in a couple hours and the next day I'm 3 shades darker there.
Back in my kid days, swimming and playing in the reservoirs, I'd use a block but only for 3or 4 times, then I'd be fine the rest of the summer. Hopefully, I won't have to pay my debt to the sun gods for 30-40 years.
Grandma, on the other hand, has to pile it on an inch deep and she still suffers if she let's the sun reach skin.
