How long did you take scuba lessons....

Before you actually started to feel comfortable enough to scuba dive? We are thinking of taking some lessons but have not done this before at all. So for others out there that started from the beginning, what are your thoughts?

I took a seven day course when I was stationed in Panama. First 5 days for four hours each afternoon, one pool dive at the facility and then on the weekend we did our ocean dives and received our certification. Of course the weekend was an all day thing with two dives on each day, from what I can remember. This was back in 82.

We've been thinking about taking scuba lessons for a while now but just haven't gotten around to it. Not sure if we would like it or not and hate to spend the money if we should end up not being to crazy about it. Doesn't sound like you have to take lessons for to long a time though.

WillaMarie; if you enjoy water sports such as swimming and snorkeling, you will most likely love scuba. Basic open water diving is a lot of fun and safe. Lessons would be well worth it and you can rent gear if need be. I'd prefer to own my own mask fins and snorkel then just rent the tanks and associated gear.

I'm just about to finish up my scuba diving lessons, and will be going for my certification (hopefully) by next week. It's pretty safe and well worth it. Just what like oldsarge said, if you love swimming and snorkeling, it's going to be rather easy. You just have to get used to all the weight of the tanks and equipment.

I know that there are some resorts that offer one-day basic diving instructions for those that visit there and want to give scuba diving a try. You may go for that first and see if you enjoy it and help you decide if you'd want to go ahead and take the lessons.
