I always like geocaching with just the map and compass. It really helps keep those skills sharp, plus you can always fall back n the GPS if needed.

I've been geocaching since 2001. I actually prefer to hide caches over finding them. Exploring the woods and roads looking for cool places to hide caches is a favorite past time of mine.

"Life is a daring adventure or it is nothing" - Helen Keller

"Keep not standing fixed and rooted, briskly venture, briskly roam" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Thanks for pointing me to this thread! I haven't tried to find it yet, but there is a book cache near me. I have never heard of a Christmas cache, that sounds like it would be a lot of fun to participate in.

The Christmas cache was fun until people started steeling the container. I guess word got out and non Cachers (muggles) started stealing stuff. For a while ammo cans were coming up missing. I no longer hides caches and have archived all my old ones. I will find caches only if it's around where I'm hiking. I no longer pay for a premium membership either. Lost interest in caching a few years ago.

Decided to try the phone app with my sons on Sunday. Two caches, local, very close to roads. Found neither. I'm wondering if the GPS on the phone is not accurate enough or if someone took them.

Maybe take along your other GPS and compare. Didn't you say you had another Garmin or was that someone else? Either way if you can get your hands on another GPS unit, you'll be able to see what's up. Chances are the caches might be gone.

Yeah, that was my thought. I do have one of the older serial eTrex models. I am also going to look up the specs for my phone in terms of GPS accuracy and might to go the geocaching forum and do a search for Droid 2. See if there are any reports on it in that context.
