Default Hiking socks for every day

Are there any hiking socks that you would recommend for every day wearing? My husband is a diabetic and on his feet on concrete all day. Being diabetic we have to be super careful about his feet. He already wears hiking boots to work because they are the most comfortable pair he could find. I don't know why I never thought of getting him hiking socks to go with them!

A store nearby sells some Fox River socks that are 100% wool and made in the US for a little under 8 bucks. I have several pairs and wear them every day in the winter - in the summer I usually wear cotton crew socks.

I really like the smartwool socks. I'm sure there are cheaper brands but those are really good

Costco has merino wool blend that are good for hiking and everyday wear, 4 pack for 10-11 bucks. Thats what we all wear backpacking. (Along with fox river, smartwool, etc.)
I still have 4 pair of Ulti Max synthetic moisture wicking tech socks that I bought in '05. They were saved for and heavily used for backpacking for 4 years then relegated to everyday wear. However, Ultimax has been bought by Wigwam, daughter bought me a couple pair of merino mid weight hikers for Christmas last year and they are not getting the job done. Very unhappy with them.

I'm another fan of merino wool with a little stretch added. There are several good brands. I wear them just about everyday, for no other reason than they are sooooo comfy. But my diabetic husband wears them every day as well, for the reasons you noted.

Any wool/synthetic blend with a quality hardly noticeable toe seam, good cushioning and a midsole that wraps and hugs the arch.
Plenty of good sites out there for just socks.

It's all I wear. On concrete in work boots all day here also.

Quality hiking socks will outlast cotton socks 20 times over. So price is not an issue.

Have to agree completely with Lorax. I wear Smart Wool, and Therlo. Since I bought quality socks for backpacking I no longer wear cotton socks at all. A Good wool sock are so much more comfortable.

I like a very thin, stretchy synthetic sock next to my skin, and a heavier outer sock (wool or wool/synthetic blend) for cushioning. I used to wear cotton a lot, but don't wear it much anymore except in very hot weather with light well-ventilated shoes.

OTOH- I don't have any diabetic issues, so can't speak to that.

Okay, they had a sale today so I picked up a couple more pairs. They're Fox River style #2389, Ragg Wool Hiker, heavy weight. Made in Iowa of 80% wool, 19% nylon, and 1% spandex. $7.87

They had an entire aisle of socks, but I couldn't find any other wool ones that cheap, and some were twice that or more. Your store prices may vary.

ETA: Found some on Ebay for 12 or 14 bucks, guess I should go back tomorrow and buy some more (merry christmas to me).
