I use many combination's from .5 liter Poland spring bottles 1/2 frozen then filled. to insulated Camel squeeze bottles, pretty much anything except those wide mouth nalgene's for whatever reason I just don't like those.

I use classic Nalgene 32 oz wide-mouth bottle and it serves me just fine. I have plastic GI type canteens and aluminium ones too. In my case, Nalgene is an overall winner.

We have 2.5L camelbak day packs. It's usually more than we need as most of our hikes are on the average of 4 - 5 miles. If we go longer sometimes we carry a couple extra bottles of water, either a nalgene or store bought water.

From time to time I carry Nalgene flexible canteen that can hold up to 3 quartz of water. Not a bad backup when in need.
