Your Take on Trekking Poles?

a rabbit suddenly appeared right in front of my dog while we were coming down a steep section of the AT. He pulled suddenly and my foot slipped. I planted my pole and it managed to regain my footing right away. If I hadn't had it, I would have face planted in the rocks and then rolled down the valley.

Four legs are better than two.

Popped my backpacking cherry Sunday. Even though it was only a few miles and a few hours. The poles came in handy. Went through some wild areas. Holding poles in front brushed away some vines. I did finally pull the little basket cups off. They kept getting stuck in the low brush. When i was back out of the undergrowth I put the baskets back on. I'm sold on poles though.
