Default Do We Take The Dog?

My husband and the kids want to start taking the dog with us when we go camping. We tent camp but I guess you would have the same problems if you camped in a camper. Our dog is a five pound Chihuahua so she wouldn't take up much room in the tent but how do you handle a dog when you camp and hike? Is there any considerations that I need to make? Thanks!

The only thing I would be worried about is other campers around you. Will she bark a lot and keep people up or annoy them? I hate it when people take barking dogs to campsites. I'm there to relax, not be bothered by someone else's pets.
If she won't bother others then why not give it a try.

We have never really considered bringing our dog. There's just too much she could get into and I would just be afraid of something happening and her getting hurt or sick. Luckily, Grandma loves for her to visit when we go away for a few days.

We have never taken our dog either but we have a pitbull so they are not allowed in some campsites. To be safe we just ask a friend to dog sit for us.

Our dog gets a little skittish when around unfamiliar surroundings, so she's better off left at home. Our friend though has a golden retriever that goes on all his trips, but really is well behaved and friendly. I would say if you have any doubts at all, it's best not to chance it.

It all depends on how your dog is around other people. If she barks alot, I would not take her. We brought our Jack Russell and she drove us crazy! Every noise outside she was up and pacing. During the day she was barking at all the other campers.

I have seen some people who bring dogs and they just lay around. These are great camping dogs.

I would check to see the rules of the campground. Where we go camping the animals are only allowed in the one area where the trailers are. This means that we have to put our dog in the trailer or tie her out if we want to walk around.

I would love to take my dog camping with ,us but I would be heart broken if she got loose and we couldn't find her. We leave her with friends or a family member when we go camping.

We take our dog all the time she loves it, but at first she had to get use to it.we take her tie down with us and stake her out. but we go to primative campsites were your lucky to see a ranger so we dont keep her tied up anymore she's very good for the most part.great hiking dog. loves it as much as we do,We also take her in the canoe with us. We are planning to do some canoe camping this year should be fun.
