| Kids would often go through a certain stage when they will really try to see how far they can go with their parents so they'll pull all the stops (whining, wailing, shouting, etc). Sometimes, if reasoning won't work for them, letting them learn the lesson the hard way can. I remember my then 9 year old daughter was throwing a fit when we went on a trip to Colorado with some friends to go skiing. She didn't like the jacket that my wife packed for her (we told her to do her own packing before she left, but she complained endlessly about it). We told her that was why we told her to do her own packing. She didn't want to wear the jacket at all. We allowed her to go with us not wearing it (we brought it just in case she changed her mind). She relented about 10 minutes after we got out. Of course, that was enough for her to start feeling sick, too. But it was enough to get her to be more cooperative.
