Default staying warm

I have never cared what the thermals I wore looked like but it seems our kids really have issues with finding warm clothes that they like. I hope this is a stage that they are going through, not sure about our next plans to go spend outdoors but I can not wait. If they keep it up with the whining about camo thermals or anything else I am going to tell them all to get a job and buy their own.

You probably didn't want to know that.....right?

How old are your kids? From what I know there is that age range where whining becomes an art form and a part of their daily routine. My nephew is 8 and he's whined about everything since he was 6. Thankfully, the occurrence of his whining has started to mellow out. My sister (his mom) told me that it eventually wears away. Sad thing is, there is no specific age when it stops (if ever it does).

I could care less what my thermals look like. If they are under your clothes, nobody can see them. My favorite pair of thermal bottoms, happen to be for men. On the subject of whining, do not cave in to their whining. Maybe it will just go away if you ignore it.

Limaker,

Decide who runs the family, and then act accordingly.

I was at a large picnic once as an 8 year old. On the way home, I complained to Dad that I didn't get enough pop to drink. He stopped at a store and bought a quart bottle of Root Beer. He handed it to me warm and said "Start drinkin'." An hour later I barfed, and never compained about food or drink again.

Kids would often go through a certain stage when they will really try to see how far they can go with their parents so they'll pull all the stops (whining, wailing, shouting, etc). Sometimes, if reasoning won't work for them, letting them learn the lesson the hard way can. I remember my then 9 year old daughter was throwing a fit when we went on a trip to Colorado with some friends to go skiing. She didn't like the jacket that my wife packed for her (we told her to do her own packing before she left, but she complained endlessly about it). We told her that was why we told her to do her own packing. She didn't want to wear the jacket at all. We allowed her to go with us not wearing it (we brought it just in case she changed her mind). She relented about 10 minutes after we got out. Of course, that was enough for her to start feeling sick, too. But it was enough to get her to be more cooperative.

Why not let them go without the thermal underwear for a night of camping if they don't like how it looks? If they're chilly enough, they'll stop complaining and wear what they have or they'll stay cold.

I'd have to agree with DMan. Sometimes, kids just don't understand why we parents do things. At times, we need to let them learn the hard way much as we don't like it.

If I had complained about a color of thermals, there would have been a "fine son, go without if you don'tlike them". I would have frozen my tail off and my attitude would have been transformed. I was always proud I had thermals. Might have had an issue if they were pink, but they were white and I was good with that.
