Default Bicycling safety

I was reading through a few of the articles here and one of my pet peeves is how a lot of bicyclists have no idea what safety is. They just expect everyone else to pull aside for them to pass. This gives those of us who care about everyone on the road (and sidewalks) a bad name. I've been spit on and had things thrown on me. Anyone else?

I haven't experienced any of those. I give running bicycles and motorcycles a lot of distance to pass through. It's different when there is a puddle though, and they spray me with mud and water...
