Default trails for your horse

I was reading up on this today and it looks like there are a ton of places on the east coast that let you have wagon trails. Most are like safari rides that you pay for but I wonder are there any places where if you do not have the land and you want to take your hose out, you could rent time in one of these parks?

Seek out public land and ride for free. Make friends with people and ride on their private land for free, maybe in exchange for some help. If you live in a rural area, ride along the roads and expose your horse to traffic, motorcycles, bikes, dogs, goats, donkeys, and llamas.

A number of years ago, a rancher died and his widow had a herd of cattle to deal with. I was talked into a 2 year lease until she had time to make some decisions. As it was just a few days before turning out onto public graze permits, I didn't have the infrastructure to move that herd the 15 miles from the home ranch to the BLM canyon. So I put out the word and sure enough, had about 20 wannabe cowboys and cowgirls show up for an old fashioned cattle drive. Everyone had a ball and I had plenty of volunteers all summer whenever riding needed to be done. WIN WIN

Grandpa,

Your story is a good one, and reveals the western values that livestock people treasure.
