Default New or Used

We are thinking about getting a used ATV but honestly I have never had one. I have no idea what I should be looking for, is it similar to that of purchasing a new/used auto?

I wouldn't really compare it to that. ATVs are usually well broken in. If you are looking for something that is going to last then I recommend buying new. You will want someone who knows about them to go looking with you if you decide on a used one though.

Most ATV enthusiasts make adjustments to their gears to make it more appealing for them. They change parts to make it stronger, faster, or just for great looks. So if you are new to owning an ATV, I'd also recommend you buy a new one.

Yes, you would want a new one. They are pretty roughly rode after someone gets one so I would advise you getting a new one. Then you can break it in the way you want.

You can get an old ATV if you know the person from whom you are buying. Sometimes old doesn't mean its always that bad. There are old things that can't be beaten by new ones. Do you ever wonder why people still want old Mustangs?
