Default Riding as a date

I've been looking for something new to surprise my wife with but I'm looking for something that is romantic. Is horseback riding considered romantic by women? I've seen it in movies, but I don't know if that is how it really is for women or not. I haven't actually done it before, so I think we'd have to be taught. Is this a good idea to take the wife to?

Depends on the woman. Do a little clandestine research with her family or close friends ahead of time. If she likes horses, you're good go to. It's not so much the actual date that will impress her, it's the fact that you put forth the effort to see what she likes...

If she's deathly afraid of horses, then pass.

I agree with Lamebeaver it depends on the woman. I know my girlfriend would love something like this, because she loves horses and riding. However, if you wife does not like horse, it would not be a good date idea. So the question you should ask, does my wife like horse or not?

How is your lady around a horse to start with? Some might think its romantic but I can tell you I know many lady friends who are scared to death of a horse, just the size is intimidating enough. Has she ever ridden before that you know of? If not, stick with a horse and buggy and not horseback.

It has been my experience that most women love horses. But, if she's never been on one, you'll want to take her to a professional who will put her and you on a good trail horse and then ride with you at a walk on a bridle path.

If she shies away from the idea immediately and with vehemence, don't go there. Horses can sense fear.

Riding is highly romantic. Just make sure that you have gentle broke horses. My uncle taught me trick of bring plastic stemware and wine in the saddlebags. It is unexpected and adds to the allure.

I think riding is very romantic in theory. Like Dinosaur said, if she has never been on a horse you want to make sure you don't get to ambitious at first. Otherwise it could turn into a huge disaster.

Hi...

I could be wrong (I thought I was, once, but I was mistaken), but wouldn't/shouldn't a spouse know the other one's likes and dislikes?

It's an admirable idea, though. The best of luck to you both.

NOTE:

"Pathfinder", who is now posting on this forum, is NOT Pathfinder1, which is me...!!

If she is afraid of horses, bad idea. But if she is neutral or likes horses, this is the greatest idea. As Ppine suggested, a quiet, secluded, beautiful outdoor setting, frosty beverage, etc, a blanket,.....well....you get the idea.
